Wladimir Klitschko: "I should fight for the world championship title!"

9 Jul 2005 13:35       hits 9014

- Wladimir, was there no other way out that you had to turn to the court?
- I'm sure, many of you have alreadry read various oppinions concerning this problem. But in my opinion, I have the full right to fight for the IBF heavyweight championship title against Chris Byrd.

- You seem confident in your opinion, what facts can back it up?
- The fact of the matter is that I already boxed with DaVarryl Williamson and won that fight. Therefore I can't understand nor recognize that a fighter beaten by me is rated higher than me by the IBF.

- But IBF rating commission has given an answer for rating DaVarryl as number three...
- And it consists of the following... DaVarryl Williamson won his last two fight, first against Oliver McCall, who wasn't rated in top 15 by IBF, and then Derrick Jefferson, who was rated #15. Thus he was rated as #15.This only raises one question, how could Derrick Jefferson be rated #15 if in his previous fight he beat Ed White (11-11, 8 KO), who lost his last seven fights, six of them by a KO.
As for my last victory, I fought against Eliseo Castillo, who before our fight was unbeaten and before our fight he beat Michael Moorer, who was rated # 13 by IBF at that time.

- Wladimir, DaVarryl Williamson has stated that he's ready to fight you with the winner fighting Chris Byrd for the championship belt. What do you think?
- I don't see any sense in fighting Williamson again. For me this fight will not be a step forward. I understand his reasons for wanting to fight me. It's prestigious and financialy favourable for him. But for me this fight will keep me at the same spot.

- Wladimir, after speaking with Chris Byrd, I understand that he wants to fight you. If both of you really want this, and it will be financially favorable for both of you, isn't there a way to overcome this obstacle?
- It's difficult for me to say what prevents this fight from happeneing. Hovewer I think that judge's decision should look at all points from different sides, and put an end to this misunderstanding. I believe in correctness and I very much regret that I had to go to court to find solution for this problem.

- When will we find out court's rulling?
- Court's decision should be made before July 13th.
