O'Neil Bell Interview

1 Feb 2006 14:15       hits 7241

15ROUNDS.COM recently caught up with newly crowned undisputed Cruiserweight Champion O’Neil “Super Nova” Bell during his victory celebration at The Seminole Paradise in Hollywood, Florida fresh off his victory a few weeks ago over Jean Marc-Mormeck. See what “Super Nova” had to say about Mormeck, Antonio Tarver and what’s on the horizon for the cruiserweight king….

15ROUNDS: First off O’Neil, congratulations on becoming undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world, how does it feel?

BELL: Thanks a lot man, it’s an honor. I can’t find a better word to say then it’s an honor. It’s good to go down in history and be a part of history.

15ROUNDS: With Zab Judah losing you are the only undisputed champion in boxing, what does that mean to you?

BELL: That means what ever I say and what ever I do can not be disputed right now and once again man, it’s a glorious thing for me to be a part of history.

15ROUNDS: You started off slow in the Mormeck fight and came back later and won. That seems to be your trade mark, are you feeling your opponent out in the beginning or is that just the way you fight?

BELL: I can’t really say off hand, it’s just a strategy, a tactic. When ever my opponent wants to turn the heat up I do so. If he wants to keep it and box then I do so then I take him out. I let my opponent dictate their fate, whatever they want to do then it shall be.

15ROUNDS: Did you go into the Mormeck fight expecting a knockout?

BELL: No I didn’t but I know I have the power, my record speaks for itself. I know what I have trained for and that’s to be a perfectionist so what ever I do must be perfected so the knockout is going to come weather it’s the first or the last round.

15ROUNDS: Would you consider a rematch with Mormeck?

BELL: Oh definitely, I said it on the air he’s an excellent fighter. We brought the best to this division in a long time so we’ll have no problem giving the crowd what they want to see.

15ROUNDS: Steve Cunningham looks like the next opponent, what is your opinion of him?

BELL: I can’t say nothing about Steve, just sign the contract. It’s a done deal just sign the contract. I’m not a big talker and Steve likes to run his mouth but come the day Steve will get defeated too. So go ahead and sign the contract and keep it professional.

15ROUNDS: There seems to be more excitement in the cruiserweight division now, how can you help keep that excitement?

BELL: By fighting good fights and not sitting on the title for x amount of years and not fight anyone. I’m going to fight opponents that put me out there that’s going to bring the limelight back to the cruiserweight division.

15ROUNDS: Who are the names that you want to target in 2006?

BELL: In 2006 I want to go in and get Tarver! I want to get Antonio Tarver, he’s number one on my hit list until I deal with my mandatory but I will always seek Tarver. If Jones wants to come out and give me some it would be a great honor to fight Jones.

15ROUNDS: If you defeat everyone that matters in the cruiserweight division or lower would you consider a move up to heavyweight?

BELL: Yes when I complete my job at cruiserweight then I will move up to heavyweight.

15ROUNDS: Any final words before we go?

BELL: Hey just keep listening and keep looking for bigger things. Stay tuned for possibly a big fight in April against my mandatory. Stay tuned and thanks for the support to all my fans and all my critics as well.
