On September 4th at the presser dedicated to the upcoming fight of Maxim «The Tormentor» Bursak (15-0, 5 KOs), undefeated IBF Youth middleweight champion, journalists and fans found out the name of his foe. Max will defend his belt at «Tiger Boxing» tournament to be held on September 27th in Kyiv. This boxing event is organized by «K2 East Promotions», promotional company of Klitschko brothers. Bursak will face Esteban Waldemar Ponce, a fighter from Argentina, who is 25 years old (Max is 24).
The Argentinean fighter has been in pro boxing less than three years, he had 15 fights: 10 wins (5 KOs), 3 losses and 1 draw. Except for 1 fight Esteban Ponce fought mainly on home turf that is why his name is not so much known to boxing fans. But by no means fight with him will be easy as ABC to Bursak – this year Esteban shines in the ring. Ponce had four fights and won all of them, three by early stoppage.
«It is well-known fact that Argentinean fighters are very firm. I’m taking this fight very seriously. Now we’ve got videos of Ponce’s fights and I’m going to study them very thoroughly», – Max commented on his rival. «Now I spar constantly: with Avtandil Khurtsidze, Allaudin Murtazaliev and with my brother Igor. I do hope that this will be last defense of youth title and that in future I’ll get the chance to fight such prominent boxers as Kelly Pavlik, Arthur Abraham and Felix Sturm. I am sure that after 3-4 good fights I’ll be ready to fight anyone of them», – Bursak continued.
«Maxim is a very assiduous sportsman», – Bursak’s trainer Sergey Gordiyenko enters into conversation. «He has developed mentality of a fighter since his childhood. We had an intensive training period and now are busy with sparrings. Argentinean fighters as a rule have rather awkward style which may cause some difficulties for boxers of Soviet and post-Soviet school. We had to keep it in mind during our training period in order to avoid unnecessary complications during the fight. We’ll be 100% ready by September 27th».
Alexander Krasyuk, general manager of «K2 East Promotions», informed that most probably Vyacheslav Glazkov, bronze medalist of Beijing Olympics in superheavyweight, soon will join «K2 East Promotions». «Now we have come to the last stage of our negotiations and hopefully soon we’ll reach the agreement», – Mr. Krasyuk informed. «We are also now in the process of talks concerning next fight of Zaurbek Baysangurov (18-0, 13 KOs), a boxer from «К2 East Promotions», who will defend his EBU (European) light middleweight title this autumn against Jamie Moore, mandatory challenger from England».
