WBA heavyweight title challenger David ‘The Hayemaker’ Haye believes the sound of opponent Nikolai Valuev crashing to the canvas on Saturday, November 7 will surpass the noise generated by fireworks on Bonfire Night (an annual Nov 5 celebration in the U.K. highlighted by fireworks). After the fireworks on Thursday, Haye is plotting the downfall of the 7-feet-2-inch, 330lb ‘Beast From The East’ in Saturday in a PPV telecast beginning at 3PM ET/noon PT. “I’ve dreamed of the moment Valuev falls to the canvas and I truly believe it will be one of the most jaw-dropping knockouts of all-time,” says Haye. “Winning any fight by knockout is a bonus, but being in a position to knock out a giant is an exciting proposition.
“Valuev has never been properly hurt before, let alone knocked down or out, and I’m now being given a chance to become the first fighter to bring ‘The Beast’ to its knees. This is my chance to make history.”
Haye travelled to Nuremberg, Germany on Monday morning, intent on snatching Valuev’s WBA world heavyweight title and bringing it back to Britain.
Admitting he’s ‘shocked’ at the interest the fight has generated amongst the British public, Haye is excited by the opportunity to become the nation’s next world heavyweight king.
“People are talking about this fight everywhere I go,” admits Haye, 22-1 (21 KO) as a pro. “I’m being stopped in the streets and everybody – whether a boxing fan or not – seems to have an opinion on what I need to do against this giant. Old ladies are worrying for my health and wishing me luck against this big bully.
“The support of the people means a great deal to me and I hope they all get to see the exciting fight they’re wishing for on November 7. Anyone who has ever watched me before will know what to expect from my end.
“I love punching things and a man of Valuev’s size gives me plenty of target to hit. The combination of my hand speed and Valuev’s immense head is going to cause an explosion.
“If I was watching the fight back home, I’d keep the fireworks on hold until Saturday night. Stay safe, keep well back and let me produce the pyrotechnics on November 7. I’m going to light Nikolai Valuev up like a Catherine wheel.”
