Hot welterweight prospect Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (31-0-1, 23 KOs) knocked out Brian Camechis (19-3, 8 KOs) of Ohio in three rounds at the Palenque de la Feria, Tuxtla Gutierrez in Chiapas, Mexico. After working him over in round one, Alvarez got him in serious trouble in the second round by dropping him twice. Alvarez then landed a massive lead left hook to drop Camachis in the third for the win.
Alvarez will see action on the pay-per-view undercard to Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Shane Mosley on May 1 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Alvarez's possible opponent is British fighter Matthew Hatton, younger brother of two division champion Ricky Hatton.
In the post-fight interview, Alvarez said that he would love to fight the big names at welterweight like Miguel Cottto, Shane Mosley and Manny Pacquiao.
