Darchinyan defense postponed!

IBF flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan's scheduled July 27 defence of the championship against Colombian Jair Jiminez ( 22-4-1) in Sydney, Australia has been postponed until August 24 because of visa problems suffered by the challenger. Jiminez could not get a visa to enter Australia in time for next wednesday's IBF title showdown. Darchinyan (23-0) now managed by Robert Joske plans to be very active champion having scored a eight round stoppage over South african Mzukisi Sikali (29-7-2) on March 27. Darchinyan represented Armenia at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and began his professional career in Australia under trainer Jeff Fenech.. On December 16, 2004 Darchinyan captured the IBF flyweight title when he scored eleventh round knockout over previously undefeated Irene Pachecho (30-1) of Colombia in Hollywood, Florida, USA

Darchinyan stops Jiminez!

IBF/IBO flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (24-0) scored a fifth round stoppage over Jair Jiminez (22-5-1) of Colombia to retain the championship tonight at the Sydney Entertainment Center, Sydney, NSW, Australia. Southpaw Darchinyan found the range early and delivered power shots to the head and body to slowly chop down the challenger. In round four Jiminez was dropped for a eight count by a powerfull left cross but he survived to finish the round but was on wobbly legs at the bell.
